first of all, i never believe that any visit by an elder is truly casual.
this particular elder was one of my closest friends from the time i first met him in the lobby of bethel during a tour, to the time he moved here from uk, to the time i left his congo.
i posted elsewhere that he once came by the house and said "is there anything i can do to help you come back to the kh?
Great job handling it with firmness, yet respect for him also. Good move in taking the groceries out of his arms to keep him from going inside.

The witlesses are terrorists, at least as an organization. They insist that people go around from door to door telling everyone that they are going to be destroyed soon (how soon?) unless they act at once and become Jehovah's Witlesses. To me, that is a form of terrorism.
That's a very broad brush you used painting that statement. Terrorists? I've been around a whole lot of people of different religions that had no problem telling a person that if a person didn't believe in their form of Christianity or Jesus that they would be destroyed or burn in hell forever. Using the term terrorists to describe people with these beliefs and practices would be similar to when the Nazi's first started vilifing the Jews in order to turn people against them. I believe we have a very good idea of who and what terrorists actually are.

surprised me that he actually followed up on his word and called .
it will be strange after four yrs.
to have them in our house .my husband was not happy to hear it will be two brothers coming over, because he really does not want to feel we are being counseled .
That was great! Sounds like you knew what you were doing the whole time. Great job, questions, reasonings & comebacks.

He finally opened up to me his feelings ,basically he said what would be the point of going back, they have already proven themselves to be conditional friends. He realizes you can only be accepted if you fit the mold of at least 10 hours of service time ,doesn't matter if you have a good heart or are a descent person you just have to fit the mold.
I like what you said in this part. After 4 yrs they want to visit!!! Like your husband said, they have already proved themselves to be conditional friends. Would have been a good opportunity to tell them that and that there is no need for a visit. You know where the KH is and will be there if you feel the need.
More than likely this is a visit to snoop or fish for how you answers questions. The "Do you feel this is God's Org?" question is bound to come out. You've got 2000+ posts......I doubt you are interested in going back. The best thing a person who wants to leave can do is to take their presumed power & authority over you away from them. I like when people just leave and don't follow the WTS rules that they have to DA or be DF'd.
P.S Just seen this posted by OTWO. Oh, and I disagree with the "advantage" of meeting in your own home. If I met with elders, it would be someplace I felt free to leave at anytime. It's easier to walk away, just saying "I gotta go," than insist that someone else do so.
I actually like this approach. You could tell them your hubby was taking you out for a treat and to meet you at McDonald's or something for a sundae. If they are really wanting to encouage you this would be a good fellowship setting. If they want to grill you, they will be more apprehensive and if you don't like where the conversation is going you can always come up with a reason to leave. I like this approach, because it's even though you are meeting with them you are taking some of their presumed power away.

the watchtower has been known for over 130 years as a great scriptural cherry-picker.
they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.
" the only time it is ever brought up it is dismissed.

i told my mom that i'm not going back to the meetings.
i wasn't planning on telling her that but i've been going through some hard times with my husband and just got fed up with her hounding me.
so she asked if i'll still consider going back to the meetings and i just flat out told her no and that it wasn't up for discussion.
Nice job Doublelife. That's probably the best way to handle it. You ain't going back and it ain't open for discussion....case closed.

many of us have drifted.
we know it isn't the truth but we might not have officially resigned as jws.
many catholics are nominal catholics and they are not shunned or avoided because of their not going to church or confession.. would you remain a jw if the organization didn't punish you for your inactivity?.
Not even considering the religious dogma, the extremism of the religion, the claim as God's Channel and the hipocrazy of the members & org itself would be reason enough to sever ties completely. It's been interesting to be around people that never knew my JW past and see the stigma that the JW's have.
